Beware of well water - How safe is well water?

How safe is well water? I see how it turns toilets & bathtubs a rust colour.
My aunt adds salt to this tank in her basement, but they water still tastes
odd. I am more concerned in the color. It is scary.

The perfectness and the taste of water of the well mainly depends on the depth of the well. More the depth better will be the taste of water.
