Lightbulb Signature link section - quality posts needed

When I click on USER CP to update my settings I am shocked to see no option for signature links. I guess this is the only forum which I came across which doesn't providing Signature link space. So considering such issue would be helpful to use in get some visitors to our blog.

Regards,
Yogesh

You are right Yogesh!.. we all post in other forums and we use our signature sections to draw traffic. This forum is search-engine friendly and it is also a "do-follow" forum. This forum is not a webmaster forum and hence every link from this forum counts. Getting a link from a forum like this can really boost your traffic both internally and externally if you understand what I mean. In the beginning users were allowed to use signature and other profile sections. For example users were allowed to create albums and upload photos. Most users were just uploading profane materials and making the albums public so the whole world could see. Most users were also using the signature sections to promote their profane materials. Imagine someone under-age coming to this forum and seeing adult materials everywhere. I don't think that sounds right. You cannot go to digitalpoint or sitepoint and start posting adult materials. Those forums are well developed with great moderators who help to keep the forum away from such monsters. This is just a new forum. We do not have the quantity and hence we must work very hard to keep the quality in order to keep people coming back. It is really hard to tell the goat from the sheep. We did not remove the signature sections. They are still in place and active but just that not everybody can use it. Your signature sections will become active once your post count reaches a certain limit. The system will automatically update all your posts from day one so you can get a backlink from all your posts. Until then, nobody can use the signature sections. Remember this is a spam prevention technique. Thanks very much and welcome to COZAY forum.

Signature link is a section that would also attract some people to post more to actually get their signature active and get backlinks, but i wanted to warn you that sometimes this can encourage spam.
People forget about quality and try to just post more and more once they set the target of getting certain number of posts to see their signature link activated.

If you are too worried about spam, try to limit the links in signature to 1 or 2, and also make a big number of posts as minimum requirement to get the signature.

Agree with bloggy.. Admins must put on signatures option per account. If they're afraid of spams, they can go strict on signatures. Like limiting it on 2-3 links or even just 1 link and limit the texts. Signatures are important on some people especially webmasters who wants traffic. In that case, this will be the formula..

Webmaster = traffic
traffic = Signature bar
signature bar = forum posters
forum posters = forum posts
forum posts = more active forum
more active forum = more people can be attracted

Good replies indeed from BBen and milamber.

I thought that its not in the script of the forum. Anyways if this forum has minimum post to qualify for signature then this is good.

Yes, I agree that this would be a good idea.

As stated above, there should be a limit for having a signature link (something like, having a minimum of 20 posts, and also having been a member for over a week). Just extra prevention against spammers, etc..

Also, I would advise having rules against the types of links a person can have in their signature (although I'm sure the administrators would already think of this).

As a matter of fact, what is the limit on the signatures? I mean how many posts I have to do for them to get enabled? And are there any restrictions on what can be put in signatures? Like on pictures etc.

I second the opinion that there is a need to bring signature section.

It provides a wonderful opportunity for the forum members to show-casing their work and also gives them incentives to monetize the same at a later stage.

As already suggested of fear of spamming, then it can be effectively controlled by limiting the signature spots....

At best.....even use the number of posts to decide the criteria for allowing signature spots to be made available.

Just my 2 cents....

It's actually nice not to see a lot of ads on the forums. I prefer quality over spam and the advertising for the webmaster etc.

There are other forums for that that is effectively moderated daily. I'm sure this is is as well But this place seems to be more about the quality of the information which is a nice change to see on the forum.

Maybe at some point it may be brought back But members/webmasters tend to spam a bit.

I love this place already

I see no problem with people placing a link to their website in their signature. This said, we must be wary of people who would post one sentence responses in as many threads as possible in order to both up their post count and effectively use the forum as an advertisement for their website, which in my book would be a form of spam. I think that after a member has proven him/herself to be a serious poster, then maybe enable them to put a link in their sig.

The maximum signature length is 30 characters, which is awful.. I would suggest it be atleast 300 charcters including BBcode or 100 character without counting the BBcode. Any less would be a little sad for all the webmasters out here..
