Aiming for Individual Development and Empowerment Committee

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Payal Patel and I am the Social Awareness Coordinator of the Aiming for Individual Development and Empowerment Committee at Bayview Secondary School in Richmond Hill, Ontario (Canada). Over the last few years, the AIDE Committee has attempted to raise both funds and awareness regarding our three main focuses; children in poverty, children in armed conflict and HIV/AIDS. Through a variety of events, including an arts cafe and conference, the AIDE Committee strives to engage the community and help build global awareness of the three foundations of the organization.

This year, we will be holding a Concert, where the Bayview SS Music Department will accompany the AIDE Committee to raise awareness. The concert, named Dry Your Tears Afrika, will include a variety of African related choral and instrumental pieces that will be accompanied by information (in the form of videos) for the audience. We hope to raise awareness within the community regarding the issues that are affecting others around the world and remind them how blessed and lucky they truly are to be given the life that they are living. In anticipation for this concert, we will have a Rehearse-a-thon, where the students will be working on their respective parts of the concert throughout the day, as well as becoming educated on the condition in Africa and what they can do to help.

In order to effectively educate the student body and the community, we are asking for the help of known organizations to provide us with the appropriate literature to help build a stronger understanding of the issues regarding children in poverty, children in armed conflict and HIV/AIDS. We are hoping that you may be able to provide us with pamplets, posters or any other product that would be able to help us raise awareness of these issues and to be an inspiration to the community.
